CHAI Make Fun of Makeup With New Single

Japanese four piece punk band released their latest single, “No More Cake,” the first since their sophomore album came out in 2019. The newest track and its accompanying video is the band’s mockery of what it feels like to put on makeup.

CHAI’s singer MANA said about the song that it is “a sarcastic poke about wearing make-up. We feel like you should wear make-up that you feel suits you. Wearing make-up shouldn’t be based on the orders of someone else.”

Bassist and lyricist YUUKI, who also designed the artwork for the single, explained about the music video that “doing your make-up to look like another person is the same as applying cake to your face.”

KANA, the band’s guitarist, elaborated saying, “we wanted the theme for this music video to be ‘make-up meets art. That’s why at times we had our faces looking like cake and then expressed as art.”
