Listen to the latest track from psychedelia-cumbia stars Sonido Gallo Negro “Suavecito”. The aptly titled track, featuring Mariposas del Alma and Doris Anahí will have you swaying back and forth in a smooth breeze.
This new song from the tropical psychedelia Mexico City outfit of Sonido Gallo Negro, is a cover a Chicano classic by the legendary band Malo. The band Malo was founded in the 1970’s in San Francisco by Arcelio Garcia and Jorge Santana, brother of former iconic Chicano musician, Carlos Santana.
The original is a Chicano oldies, a slower cumbia that hits softly and puts you in a more intimate ambiance meant for a candle-lit encounter. This 2026 reinterpretation picks up the tempo and has you dancing this cumbia on a beach with friends.
And while Sonido Gallo Negro maintains the romantic essence of the original ballad, with this cover they’ve turned the song into a larger binational masterpiece through the collaborative effort.
This cover is accompanied by the vocals of Los Angeles artist Doris Anahí and Bay Area sisters Mariposas del Alma.
The new song is on the lighter side for Sonido Gallo Negro, leaning more on their tropical roots as opposed to their heavier and more intense psychedelic tropes. But just any other of their works, the music is fun and will have you dancing along.
