SCANDAL Shares New Video for ‘GeGeGe no Kitaro’ Theme

The iconic Japanese pop-punk band SCANDAL shared the video for their song, “A.M.D.K.L.,” a song from their forthcoming album that is the theme for the hit anime GeGeGE no Kitaro.

Director Hiroshi Usui who has worked extensively with the band over several years explained, “the first line of the video proposal was simply “網dark字”. The reason why we were able to make such a cool video out of such a play on words was probably because the feel of these four together was perfectly captured. Additionally, it was also because when they were all shot individually they all posed for the camera so captivatingly that people just couldn’t stop saying ‘nice’ over and over again.”

That play on words that Usui refers to is that “網dark字” is transliterated as “ami dark ji” (AMi DarK Ji = A.M.D.K.J.). The first kanji “網” can mean “net” or “web”, captured in the video with the use of the chainlink fence, the “dark” is represented by the members’ black outfits, and the “字” can be read as “character”, as in the letters of “A.M.D.K.J.” that appear throughout the video.

This track, now available to be streamed and downloaded, was composed by the band’s guitarist MAMI and the lyrics were written by the band’s drummer RINA.

Their album, Kiss from the Darkness, is available to pre-order now at JPU Records digitally or on CD in two different versions.
