Rodrigo Amarante has finally made his long awaited return. His new single “Maré” is the first song from his sophomore album and his first lone track since his song “Tuyo” which was the theme for the Netflix original series, Narcos.
This song is the perfect tune to play to relax to and take in some sun. “Maré” was also shared with an eclectic and colorful self-directed video as well as the announcement of Amarante’s new album Drama, which will be out July 16th on Polyvinyl.
Amarante talked about the contrast between the song and video saying “this song is about how we shape our destiny and character by what we crave, wish, dream about, despite the outcome. The video is not. That is deliberate. The video is about writing the song, or any song, not about the song itself. It is a representation of writing it, a look on the work that is to produce the magic that is writing, this way looping back to what shapes my own destiny, my wishes and cravings, what the song talks about. I say magic because there is an unpredictable element in writing, yet it is a mental activity: there lies drama.”
The Rio de Janeiro born artist began the process of creating this new album in 2018. Writing continued into 2019 and included the resurfacing of some past writings for him.
The musicians on the band include Amarante’s regular band: “Lucky” Paul Taylor on drums, bassist Todd Dahlhoff, Andres Renteria on congas, and Amarante on guitar.
